No. Images that already have alt text are skipped entirely. AltGuard only fills in images where alt text is missing.
Open AltGuard from your Shopify admin and use the catalog backfill on the dashboard. It scans every product, reports how many images are missing alt text, and fills them in when you apply. Large catalogs are scanned through Shopify's bulk API, so the scan may take a few minutes.
Most likely you reached your plan's monthly image allowance. The dashboard shows how many images you've used this month. Allowances reset at the start of each calendar month (UTC), or you can upgrade for a larger allowance.
AltGuard responds to product create and update events from Shopify, which can take a short while to arrive. If nothing appears after a few minutes, check that you still have monthly allowance remaining, then contact us with your store domain and an example product.
Yes. The settings page lets you set tone, maximum length, language, and whether to include your brand name. Changes apply to alt text generated after you save.
Plan changes are handled on the billing page inside the app. To cancel, uninstall AltGuard or remove the subscription from your Shopify admin — this stops future charges, and access continues until the end of the current billing period.
Alt text is AI-generated and should be reviewed. It's designed to follow accessibility best practice and gives you a strong starting point, but using the app does not by itself make a store compliant with WCAG, the ADA, or any other standard. See our Terms of Service.
